Monday Made-It AND Meet-Up!!

I'm once again linking up with The Teaching Tribune for their Summer Bloggin series. Today is another Monday Meet-Me, and we're supposed to share three things we're thankful for...here we go! (**Be sure to read to the bottom of the post, there's a GIVEAWAY!! ;))

I'm also linking up for my first Monday Made-It!!

http://4thgradefrolics.blogspot.com/2014/06/monday-made-it-summer-week-5.html

I saw this Birthday Chair idea from Mrs. Richardson's Class on last week's Monday-Made It and loved the idea! Normally I would just put a little Silly Straw Birthday Balloon on the student's desk the morning of their birthday. I also had a chair cover from the Dollar Tree I'd slip over their chair. After I saw her blog post, I thought this idea seemed WAY more fun and special!!

I had this chair on hand already from college. I do wish it wasn't pink, but it was definitely the cheaper route as opposed to buying a new one. ;) If the boys complain about it I may give it a quick spray paint job, but we'll see.

I added these letter and jewel stickers from Michaels, and...

This was the quickest and easiest project and I know the kiddos will LOVE it!! :)

My bigger Monday Made-It project this week was this blog -- it got a makeover completely designed by me! I have zero experience with this kind of thing, and I was really happy with how it's turned out so far! :)

Last but not least, I hit 50 Facebook followers last weekend, I'm so excited!! I'd LOVE to get to 100 by this weekend, and so I'm doing a little $10 TPT gift card giveaway on Facebook this week. Go check it out now!!!

Five for Friday & CHEVRON Pocket Charts?!

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday -- be sure to link up and join in on the fun!! :)

On Tuesday night, Kellie Pickler gave a free concert down at the beach. We went with some friends and had a blast- as she left, I even managed to grab a picture with her. It doesn't get much better than a country concert for this girl! ;)

I know it's summer and I should be relaxing by the pool (which I have been!), but I've also been doing quite a bit of planning for my classroom next year. My hubby keeps telling me to relax, but decorating and setting up my classroom is so FUN for me, that it doesn't feel like I'm working all that much. Needless to say, when a fellow blogger posted a picture on Facebook of some particular baskets I've been waiting for at Big Lots, I called all of the surrounding stores. ;) The last one I called said they'd just gotten their shipment in. Well, I was there within the hour and this is what greeted me:

After that trip, I definitely need to cool my back-to-school shopping for a little while. ;)

Have you been watching the World Cup? I'm going to be honest - my hubby plays soccer, watches soccer, LOVES soccer...I've never been a huge fan. BUT, I've gone out and watched all 3 of the US Soccer Games the past two weeks with him, and I've had a blast!! We've gone to the "Official Watch-Spot" in Ft. Myers for every game, and it has been completely packed full of fans.

We even made it on the front page of the newspaper this morning after yesterday's game!! I have no clue what I'm doing, and this is so not flattering, but I had to share it anyway. ;)

I am SO excited to share this with you!!! I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of the primary blue (and sometimes red) that all pocket charts come in. I was probably a little too excited when I found these:

They have lots of great colors - black, chevron, turquoise, purple, green, burlap, and more!! They even have smaller versions of these with only 6 slots for file folders. I've already replaced my red one I keep by my desk with the black and white chevron chart....and may have bought some hot pink file folders to go with it. The best part is, they are only $12.99!!
Check them out here! :)

Is anyone else looking forward to this?! It's on TONIGHT!!! I can't wait to tune in and see Cory and Topanga again!! ;) Come back afterwards and let me know what you thought!!

Have a GREAT weekend, friends!!!

Two for Tuesday: Literacy Goodies

Wooo, it's Two for Tuesday! Two for Tuesday means I get to put two of my favorite TPT products on sale for 50% off today only...and you get TWO awesome products for the price of one.

http://www.theteachingtribune.com/2014/06/two-for-tuesday-2_24.html

The first product I'm featuring is my Interactive Foldable Character Project. This is a project I created in my first year of teaching. I did it as a take-home project that first year, but this past year I actually did it in-class during the last week of school. I can honestly tell you that my kids LOVED this project. They had a blast thinking like their favorite book character and getting to design them.

This was my example I made with the kids - hopefully you can tell that it's Harry Potter! ;)

On the outside of the character:
  • recreation of the cover
  •  a name tag introducing the character
  •  a speech bubble that includes a meaningful quote from the character
  • 8 adjectives describing the character on the arms & legs

On the inside of the character:
  • a camera where the character has taken a "picture" of something. (This was one of my kids' favorite parts - they have to think like that character and think of what he/she would take a picture of.)
  • the character's iPod, where they have to list 3 songs that character might have on their iPod. (For example, Harry Potter listens to "Do You Believe in Magic?")
  • the center part contains an interview with the character, where once again, students step into the character's shoes and answer an interview as that character.

Here was what some of the finished products from my second graders looked like. They were SO proud of them and had so much fun making and presenting them! Can you spot Spongebob, Clementine, and a Rainbow Fairy?!

If you're interested in doing this project with your students next year, check out the link below! The pack includes all templates, directions, and a rubric. Today you can snag it for just $2!

The second product I'm featuring was a great addition to my classroom last year. I wanted an incentive for students that would help self-motivate them to read and provide them with a sense of accomplishment. We use Accelerated Reader at our school and set point goals for our student. Students' goals vary depending on their reading level and such, but it's a very personal thing and individual goals are not shared with the whole class. I couldn't very well have them track their "points" in a public way in the classroom, because some of my students were earning 20 points a quarter, while others struggled to earn 8. So, instead we track the percentage of their goal they've met every Friday using my Super Readers AR tracking set.

Monday Meet Me!

I'm excited to link up with The Teaching Tribune today for my very first blog post!! It happens to be Monday Meet-Me, which seems like the perfect topic for my first post.

 Monday Meet Up

Here we go, three random facts about me to get started...

AND, since this is my very first time introducing myself to the blogging world, I decided to include a few pictures.

Here's that adorable pup I mentioned before...he is seriously the SWEETEST!

Did I mention we're Florida State fans?? I became one by marriage, but funny enough we met in college when we both attended the University of Central Florida.

This is my amazing family...at, yes, another football game. I may have been born and raised in Florida, but my parents are from Michigan and my brother and I were raised Lions fans!

That's all I've got for now! Check on back tomorrow when I'll be marking TWO of my very favorite TPT products 50% off!!!

(Did I also mention I'm a TPT addict and I love a good sale?! ;) )
